View Full Version : Looking for some good Sushi
kimball 05-08-2010, 06:11 PM Any suggestions for the best sushi restaurant? Looking for a place to take my friend one night over his bachelor party weekend. Looking for good sushi... drinks and an up beat vibe.
An old thread raved about Social House... which will not reopen in time.
I have been to little buddha, yellowtail and japonais.
Theres a small place in MGM. Cant remember the name, but it was reasonable and good.

kimball 05-08-2010, 06:25 PM There's 2 sports at MGM... the grand wok and shibuya. I have walked by shibuya a few times and wanted to check it out, anyone been?
P-tr-ck 05-09-2010, 07:29 AM I only heard good things about Nobu, it also has a Michelin Star.

It's at the HRH.
nyc2vegas 05-09-2010, 10:52 AM sushi roku at forum shops awesome
kimball 05-09-2010, 11:00 AM thanks for the suggestions.
There's also ra in fashion show mall.. the sushi is decent. it's more like funky type of rolls, not really "real" sushi.. but they have an upbeat vibe/party type atmosphere, drinks, and during happy hour they have awesome deals.. like $1 sake.. and 50% off a bunch of appys.
there's good sushi at Kaigenro, which is a bit off strip, but it's not an upbeat vibe.. but good sushi, authentic and good prices.
There's some place inside Mandalay Bay that was pretty good.
kimball 05-17-2010, 07:18 AM Are you looking for someplace on the strip, or do you have the means to get around town? There are some really good places off strip if you have transportation.
It would need to be somewhere on the strip... it's just easier.

Social House was my favourite - was awesome, probably best sushi I have had outside of Nobu in London.
Shibuya is actually very good too.
Patrick, I wasn't impressed by the Vegas Nobu - not nearly as good as its London counterpart.
Fletch'a 05-23-2010, 12:13 AM Shibuya was awesome, really good quality and service.
kimball 05-24-2010, 06:56 AM Shibuya was awesome, really good quality and service.
I think that's the place we are going to try since we are staying at MGM... Thank you everyone.
TYates18 05-28-2010, 04:03 PM personal favorite is off the strip Oyshi, worth the ride.
kimball 06-01-2010, 09:45 PM Shibuya was ok... we didn't think the service was that great. It took forever to get our food. Then my friend... the bachelor... yelled and just about everyone... sure that didn't help. But, he had a long day at the pool. However, we did get a free bottle of sake out of it. A few shots there then the rest of the bottle to go. The pitt boss was less than happy to see it at our blackjack table.
Anyways, just thought I would report back. I would just go back to yellowtail next time.
Thoughts on SushiSamba @ Palazzo?

So what you're saying is that you'd pick Yellowtail out of all the ones you've been to?

yes.
I think I might try the sushi at Yellowtail but I have a few questions. I've only eaten at a "sushi" place once. I don't even know if I'd call it that. Anyways I had a couple of the rolls and they weren't too shabby. What are your opinions on what type of sushi to try? Like I said I have no idea what any of it actually is. I can look at the menu but that doesn't really help me.

I like to try new ones... and a place like yellowtail is great for that. Order a few that sound good and ask your waiter to suggest one.
gubuju 06-29-2010, 09:57 PM Sen of Japan is great if you have access to a car. W/o one, it wouldnt be worth the taxi cab ride out
Tolek 08-09-2010, 02:14 AM I'd say check out Tao. I got a chicken dish that (for the price) I was honestly unimpressed with. But my friend got two rolls that were prepared very nicely and tasted really good. If I remember correctly, the prices on each roll ranged from about $14-$22. The sizes were 4-6 pieces on the two he got, so some might have more than 6 but I'm not sure.
Good luck!
givemecouture1 11-20-2010, 09:58 AM I love Nobu in the HR! Expensive but good. Just don't go after Rehab when you're still drunk/starting to get hung over... learned that last time ;)
Bababooey323 12-02-2010, 01:41 PM Judging by the menu's, Japonais and Little Buddha look the best to me.

I should try one of these. I have always stuck with MGM spots...
Bababooey323 12-15-2010, 09:43 AM I was there this past weekend... I stayed at Mirage and ate at Japonais, but it was before 5pm, so I could only eat the appetizers, not sushi...but let me just say- their skirt steaks and angus beef sliders were amazing.
I had sushi at Roku, which was OK for me, but everyone else I was with loved it. Had dinner at Yellowtail and loved it. Great food.

I've had two great meals at Japonais... Good place.
Sir Pearce 01-07-2011, 08:17 PM Yellowtail, hands down. Again, not because I work with The Light Group, but this is truly an amazing restaurant. I am very good friends with Akira Back, the Executive Chef there, and he never ceases to amaze.
If you've been, I recommend going back, Chef Akira just re-did the menu and added some amazing dishes (Shikoku Octopus with Jalapeno Vinaigrette, Duck Proscuitto).
Blue Ribbon at Cosmo is my new second favorite.
smartone618 01-08-2011, 03:34 PM Nobu is way overrated IMHO, they act like their doing you a favor to feed you... but right across the street (Paradise) from the Hard Rock is a great sushi place called Kaisen Fusion Roll/Sushi. The food's great and atmosphere is hip. It's over next to the Johnny Rockets.
shinka 01-08-2011, 04:09 PM Sushi Mon and Hikari I think at least deserve a mention. All you can eat, surprisingly good quality and under $30, hard to beat.
notna 01-12-2011, 06:21 AM Japonais is a great place! And I also agree with the fact that Nobu is overrated. The atmosphere is not so great, the food is really good tho. But not a place you want to go an d have fun.
bsweet 01-17-2011, 08:15 PM KAYA on spring mountain is a great spot. little bit off the strip, not too far at all though. 23 bucks for all you can eat, which includes all the usual rolls, specialty rolls, sushi (uni and sweet shrimp are great), and the ono (white tuna) is awesome, robotayaki skewers, noodle soups, other appetizers, and desserts
Blue Ribbon at Cosmo is my new second favorite.
I've heard mixed reviews on Blue Ribbon - my thought was they were just getting their $hit together after the Grand Opening. If you say the kinks are out, I'll definitely try it out
Sushi Mon and Hikari I think at least deserve a mention. All you can eat, surprisingly good quality and under $30, hard to beat.
I second Sushi Mon - it is amazing. All you can eat, but it's not like buffet style where the food sits out in mass quantities. The sushi is fresh and they bring it out to you as you order. On the downside, the location is off the strip and I would've never discovered it if it weren't for my local friends.
I also liked Sushi Roku at Caesar's Palace.
