If you are looking for a high-quality authentic Mexican restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip that still remains relatively affordable for most, you should run, not walk, to Hussongs Cantina (located in the Mandalay Place shopping row).

Based off of the original restaurant in Ensenada, Mexico which first opened in 1892, Hussongs Cantina isn't a place to go for the standard "gringo" enchilada with a side of rice and beans. Their menu is filled with a fantastic array of traditional Mexican dishes that one would have to travel deep into the country to experience.

You MUST try the Elote Plazero (appetizer), a grilled white chuck of corn that is brushed with mayonnaise, butter, and covered with this extremely addictive cotija cheese. Beyond flavorful, and it's only $5. I seriously wanted to break into the kitchen and steal a tub of that cheese, but kept my manners.

Other favorites were the enchiladas suizas, the carnitas tacos, the milanesa torta, and the fried ice cream. Something adventurous on the drink menu was the Hussongs Red Eye, a tecate (beer) Bloody Mary that is served with celery, a stick of hot peppered beef jerky, and a side of tequila.

That sounds really good! Oh and that corn is bomb!!! However I will say it's probably 10x better when you get it coming back from Tijuana after a night of drinking! And it's like a buck!!! :eek:

youve apparently never had east coast mexican food...haha its all really southwestern food that they call mexican

Ive only eaten Mexican food once outside of TX and Mexico. It was in South Tahoe, and it was the WORST food Ive ever tasted. How do you screw up a burrito???????? I wont do that again.
