View Full Version : superbowl bets
Bababooey323 02-02-2010, 11:59 AM who you guys gonna be betting on?
i'm taking the saints.
i wish i was able to place bets a week ago, when the payout would have been double what it is now... the line changes suck.
Charles~ 02-02-2010, 12:12 PM Depends on if Freeney plays.
I think I have 10GBP on the Saints from aaaages ago. Unfortunately that was during their winning streak, so payout won't be as good as if I'd done it after their last loss.
nyc2vegas 02-02-2010, 12:59 PM take the over!!! with freeney out these two teams are gonna run wild
AK2Vegas 02-02-2010, 01:14 PM I'm taking the saints to cover...I'm leery about the over. I'm getting 57 pts o/u.
nyc2vegas 02-02-2010, 01:16 PM 37-28 indy and the over!
AK2Vegas 02-02-2010, 01:22 PM Really....? How do these teams do outside? They're both dome teams...anything could happen.
pcket5s 02-02-2010, 01:35 PM I like the saints + 5.5 parlayed with the under...doesn;t look like weather will be a factor forecast is calling for sunny and 70
kimball 02-02-2010, 01:40 PM I want to take the saints... but my head tells me payton will cover by a touchdown. He's been there... and what he did in the second half against the jets.
I see today the saints are getting 5.5... it was 6... and could of been bet up to 6.5 by game time. But it looks like more money is coming in on the saints. Look for one side of the strip to offer the line a half point different. That was the case last year.
I don't think freeney is that big of deal... I like the over. Both teams can score and have to score to win. Keep an eye on the weather. But the last time the Colts where in the superbowl it was in Miami... and the rain. And I think they put up just over 40 points?
I still don't know what I will do yet... It's early. There's something about the saints.
The last 4 out of 6 superbowls have been won by four points or less.
Bababooey323 02-02-2010, 02:06 PM Saints, and Over.
Gonna put down some other bets, too, like on the coin toss and shit
kimball 02-02-2010, 02:12 PM The side bets are great... we were one away from hitting a big parlay last year.

Thanks. Stats like shake my confidence in everything.
I think I'll wait until about 15 minutes before the game to make my choice.

Lol, all parlays are one away from hitting it big.
kimball 02-02-2010, 07:31 PM Lol, all parlays are one away from hitting it big.
We had 6 of 7... That won we missed was almost 3K.
kimball 02-02-2010, 07:56 PM For those of you who like the Saints here's a nice stat ... and I have more ...
***In their franchise's previous 3 Super Bowls, the Colts are 2-0 when wearing white and 0-1 in the blue jerseys. The team wearing the white jerseys has won the last 5 Superbowls in a row. New Orleans will be wearing white this week, with the Colts choosing their home blues.
IndyColtsGal 02-02-2010, 09:02 PM Don't count Freeney out all together the Colts have a way of pulling out in a crunch what about the D. that wasn't present the entire 2006 season until they made it to the championship games.
Colt's aren't the best in the snow but rain hasn't played much of a factor in the recent past. Doubt it will snow in Miami.
GO COLTS
Bababooey323 02-02-2010, 09:08 PM Who Dat Say They Gon' Beat Them Saints?!?!?!!?????????
NyceGuy 02-02-2010, 09:18 PM I like Peyton and I think the colts have the better team, but I want the saints to win this one.
Bababooey323 02-02-2010, 09:25 PM I like Peyton and I think the colts have the better team, but I want the saints to win this one.
yeah, colts are the favorite
chillin@thebellag 02-03-2010, 03:40 AM Colts -4.5 is like printing money. Still a bit leery about betting the over as I could easily see a final scoreline of 31-24...I figure I'll make a game-time decision on that one.
nyc2vegas 02-03-2010, 07:02 AM 2 dimes on colts and the over!!!!!!!!!!!
kimball 02-03-2010, 07:14 AM right now it's 56.5 ... it's the combined score of both teams. you can bet the over... thinking both teams together will score 57 points or more. or the under... thinking they'll score less.
kimball 02-03-2010, 07:16 AM Colts -4.5 is like printing money. Still a bit leery about betting the over as I could easily see a final scoreline of 31-24...I figure I'll make a game-time decision on that one.
with good reason...
***Four out of the last 5 Super Bowls have stayed UNDER the total.
I've just realised I don't understand how American sports odds work at all... Should probably look that up before I go.

top right is a drop down that converts the odds to decimal and fractional the way you guys do it...hope that helps. I assume the rest you knew, it was just the odds right?

These don't mean anything at all. It's as irrelevant as saying that since 2000 the NFC has only won twice. It doesn't matter.
Some equally useless stats:
New Orleans:
New Orleans is 1-6 ATS in its last 7 games
New Orleans is 15-3 SU in its last 18 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of New Orleans's last 6 games
New Orleans is 4-2 ATS in its last 6 games when playing Indianapolis
New Orleans is 5-2 SU in its last 7 games when playing Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS
Indianapolis is 7-2 ATS in its last 9 games
Indianapolis is 16-2 SU in its last 18 games
The total has gone OVER in 5 of Indianapolis's last 6 games
Indianapolis is 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games when playing New Orleans
Indianapolis is 2-5 SU in its last 7 games when playing New Orleans
Except for the bold, the rest are almost utterly useless, IMO. Teams only care about the bold stats above, they don't care about anything else.

No... some are more funny than anything. But some of those trends are VERY important. Such as ATS when betting over the course of the season. But looking at the over / under from the last 5 or 6 superbowls means something. Who is wearing what color... not so much.
Bababooey323 02-03-2010, 01:28 PM So we're betting the over, right?
kimball 02-03-2010, 01:59 PM So we're betting the over, right?
Most people love the over with these two teams... I'm not sold. Some people think I'm crazy. The last 5 superbowls... 50 points or less. Those teams could score.
If you like the over take it... you have a 50 / 50 shot.

alot of the last few superbowls actually had defenses, detroit put up 27 vs. NO
Pitt, New England, Giants, and Bears all had GREAT defenses, and the bears defense was very good a few years ago when Peyton and co. put up 27. theres no defense in this game and I think Indy typically plays to the level of their competition they either out score them in a shootout OR eat the clock if the team has a good defense.....and obviously the Saints can score, so Im gonna go the shootout right.................two dimes on Indy and the over :D

Sounds like a man with a plan. My heart says NO but my head says Payton. The Colts have not lost a game this season... that they wanted to win. Payton also had his way with the Jets in the second half. If the Vikings would of held on to the ball... they would be playing Sunday.
I'm still a toss up... I'll make up my mind by Sunday morning.
masterdeviance 02-03-2010, 02:53 PM Before Freeney's injury, I would have been suspicious of taking the over like kimball. But with Freeney injured or out and that horrible Saints secondary, the over seems like the best choice to me.
As for taking Indy or NO....I have to go with Peyton.

Damn, that's WAAAAAAAY more scratch than I'm going to Vegas with hahaha

yeah but look at it this way.....it will ultimately be four dimes :D

Yes, I totally agree about the funess. But the spread changes so the ATS isn't a good indicator as to the next matchup. Also there is nothing about the past superbowls that really matter here. Imagine going through the season and changing the spread by three points and then seeing the ATS records. What I'm arguing is that they are arbitrary to what happens on the field.

I'm not sold either. Anything could happen. Payton gets food poisoning or in a car crash. Take the wait and see approach. Make you bets the same day if you can.

Not to mention that the Saints got a lot of REALLY good calls (I"m not saying all teams don't get these but these guys had themselves propelled into the superbowl because of it.) I'll know about an hour before kickoff.
kimball 02-03-2010, 09:48 PM AK2VEGAS...
Here's what I like about ATS.
The Saints are 1-6 ATS over the last 7 games... your right here... toss that out. Means nothing.
However, the Colts are 7-2 ATS over the last 9 games. Those two games the colts didn't want to win. The colts have not lost a game this year they wanted to win. Toss out those two games... the other 7 the colts covered every game. I like that.
It's funny these teams are in the superbowl... these are the two teams I bet with the most over the season... and won with.
As far as going through the season and moving the spread 3 points... I would stay away from those games. I backed off games that moved a point or half point.
The Saints are a great story... but the more I think about it... and this line stays at 5.5... I like the Colts.
Still don't feel good about the over / under ... might not even bet it.

I hear what you're saying, but disagree. The numbers, while statistically are sound (they won more than they lost), still contain a variably arbitrary number (in this case two). The spread itself, and the number of nine games. Why nine? If we're going to assume any amount of games it should be the entire season, unless, something specific happens (injury etc).
If it stays at 5.5 or less I'm leaning Colts but torn by the unpredictablilty of football. We mostly agree the Colts will win, but that late fourth quarter drive to take tie the game and then lost to an INT and then field goal is always present in this game.
I agree about the over/under.

Aha, that's very helpful, thanks!
kimball 02-04-2010, 12:49 PM vegasinser.com says the line at the Hilton is now Colts -5 ... we'll have to wait and see if the weekend money moves it back up. I don't see it going down.
However, It is 4.5 on sportsbook.com, right now.
Bababooey323 02-04-2010, 01:30 PM Saints and Over. Do it. Win.
chillin@thebellag 02-08-2010, 12:40 AM apparently the only thing that's a lock these days is that the nfc will win the cointoss....i think i'm gonna take the under in every SB from now on.
IRockNvegas 02-08-2010, 11:46 AM Anybody win anything?
masterdeviance 02-08-2010, 12:52 PM That damn onside kick totally changed the game...
I'm also curious how anyone who was in Vegas this weekend did with their SB bets. Kimball and other peeps?
AK2Vegas 02-09-2010, 09:03 AM Anybody win anything?
No. And I'm bitter.
I don't think I'll watch NFL anymore.
Bababooey323 02-09-2010, 12:49 PM SAINTS BABY... I had my money on them, like I told you all to do. Should have listened to me, especially that one dude who wanted to drop 4 large. lol
nyc2vegas 02-09-2010, 12:59 PM me!!!!!
can I borrow some money?
AK2Vegas 02-09-2010, 03:39 PM I'm taking the saints to cover...I'm leery about the over. I'm getting 57 pts o/u.
Saints, and Over.

I didn't listen to you or me, but if I had listened to you I still woulda lost on the over!!! (sorry, I'm still bitter)
kimball 02-09-2010, 04:59 PM I hated the superbowl. I took the Colts... I felt OK at halftime. But I did stay away from the over.
Bababooey323 02-09-2010, 07:15 PM I was nervous about the over, so I bet very little.
Bababooey323 02-09-2010, 07:18 PM I put in a bet for the Mayweather vs Mosley fight before leaving. May 1st-- hope it happens. Money's on Mayweather
pcket5s 02-10-2010, 10:48 AM I like the saints + 5.5 parlayed with the under...doesn;t look like weather will be a factor forecast is calling for sunny and 70
Wished I wouldn't of been such a wuss and dropped a $100 on that bet
AK2Vegas 02-10-2010, 12:47 PM Wished I wouldn't of been such a wuss and dropped a $100 on that bet
Ouch. (sighs).
