Bababooey323 01-31-2010, 10:37 PM what's your favorite sportsbook? & why?
i had a kinda tough time deciding where to place my bets for the superbowl this weekend. staying at monte carlo, and decided to watch the game at the palazzo. either at the lagassi stadium (their sportsbook) or their event at lavo. still undecided. i am also undecided in regards to which sportsbook i will be placing my bets at... monte carlo, where i'm staying, or the palazzo, where i'll be watching the game... monte carlo would be less of an option if i weren't a little worried about waking up late, and not making it to the palazzo in time to place my bets.
jwurts4 02-01-2010, 11:06 AM I've never been to either of those. The Hilton has a sweet setup. You have to walk 2 miles into the belly of that place to get to it. But if you bet games, it's the place to go.

Why, they give the best lines/odds?
nyc2vegas 02-01-2010, 12:39 PM the hard rock used to not have a vig, but that was several years ago, not sure if it has changed
McNulty 02-01-2010, 12:45 PM Bet at the place you are staying is usually my best advice, especially if you know what you want to bet and how much. Line Shopping isnt really needed in today's information age, but check online to get the current odds, I use covers.com. If you can get a half point or better payout, make the trip to wherever is offering it when you see it.
Take the tickets up to the room and put them in the safe and hope they are worth more than paper after you get back.
Keeps you from losing them drunk, keeps you from carrying large amounts of cash that you dont need to have on you that you plan on betting, keeps you from paying the ugly ATM fees. It also keeps me personally from biggish impulse bets after I have had a few.
As for Monte Carlo, it is part of MGM, so the line will be the same as any MGM places, the only difference will be the logo on the back of the ticket.
Now if you think you are going to be dropping enough on the game to get treated very well at Lagasse's go ahead and ignore this advice, otherwise I would do Monte Carlo and go enjoy the Lavo party which sounds like a pretty good deal from what I remember reading.
McNulty 02-01-2010, 12:48 PM Also, having them in the safe back in the room keeps you from cashing in right away if you are a winner and making drunken/impulse buys later in the night......not that there is anything wrong with that.
But again, thats just me.

Thanks, Jimmy. This is helpful.
kimball 02-01-2010, 01:41 PM I would place a bet where you are staying... The line to get your cash after the game is not worth it. As for the line... It may differ between MGM and harrahs casinos by half a point... that was the case last year.
I like the sportsbooks at mirage and caesars... but lagassi stadium has the best set up by far. I heard you can reserve a spot for the suberbowl... not sure what that would cost. When i was there for a regular season NBA game I would told I had to order $100 worth of food and drinks to sit on the nice leather couch.
My friend and I will be there this weekend for the game... I might call this week and see what the deal is.

If you gotta spend a hundy, might as well spend it at Lavo for the game.

I'm sure it's more than a hundo for the suberbowl... what's going on at lavo for the game?

MelbaToast86 02-06-2010, 04:27 PM any info on march madness deals? that $100 set up would be great. Anyone know what a skybox at Lagasse's Stadium runs??
Just reviving an old thread instead of making a new one. I'm at work so I can't look this info up on the interwebz. Stupid Websense. I'm actually surprised I can even use these forums.
Anyways, I've never been to a sports book or bet on any sporting event before. I would love to do that a bit when I go to Vegas this August. I'm curious on the etiquette and how exactly betting works. I'll try to read some about it this weekend but I thought maybe some of you could give me some pointers.
Godzuki 07-18-2010, 01:18 AM Just head to the window, make your bet.
There's a few little things. Make sure you tell them what terms in the game you're betting on... I'll give you an example. My teams the Broncos, so I bet the Broncos no matter what, wise? No. Fandom? Yes. Anyway when I wager on them it's a straight bet for them to win. I don't want to be annoyed that they won by 3 but they needed to win by 5 to make me some cash. That's me. The thing that you may run into(my friends have) - you walk say; "$1500 on the Nuggets" but when all is said and done you didn't bet them Straight the cashier assumed you're betting the line. Just be sure.
Parlays are just betting multiple events at once. Pick 2 right - 3 to 1, 3 - 7 to 1, 4 - 15 to 1 and so on. I dig'em on multiple sports because picking one right from multiple spectrums "can" be easier. I've gotten destroyed patting myself on the back for nailing four NFL picks right to only see the fifth bust.
Teasers are of the same ilk as a parlay but with this you get to "tease" your bet by whatever tease the sportsbook offers. So if it's a two game parlay with a 6pt tease you can apply those 6pts to either down or upping the spread.
These are the three main points to sportsbetting along with "futures" but that's self-explanatory.
Definitely checkout some sites there are tons that offer great, sound advice and also don't hesitate when the books slow to ask for some help from the folks behind the desk, 9 times out of 10 they'll be patient and be more then willing to help you figure it out or if you're lucky you end up chatting with the right vets who frequent the book who are psyked to impart their wisdom on the next generation.

As for my favorite sportsbook. Caesars. Hands down. Palazoo is nice, MGM, Hilton, Bellagio and Mandalay are all very solid choices. But my money and ass always finds it's way too Caesars for their sportsbook.
