View Full Version : JC.com Mobile?
Keebler 08-14-2009, 08:01 AM Im just throwing this out there and im sure it would be tough, but what about a mobile site? I know a lot of us have blackberry's and iPhones so it would be great (not to mention much easier) to post stuff in the forums when were out in Vegas reporting back to everyone.
I know its a stretch, but it would be cool.
Cisco419 08-14-2009, 08:13 AM +1!!! It would be awesome!

It would be nice, though the forums load pretty quickly on my phone's browser as it is...

Yeah, if you have a BB or an iPhone, can't you already just go on and post?
I have mobile apps for some other forums, and I dont even use them. I always use my bookmarks in my browser.
Cisco419 08-17-2009, 02:30 PM Yeah, if you have a BB or an iPhone, can't you already just go on and post?
That's what I do!

Well it really depends on the type of phone you have. Most phones that are web enabled require websites to be formatted for the web. Higher end phones like Iphone/BB and my Samsung Eternity have a true web browser which can view any sites.
So what Keebs was saying is that they should reprogram a mobile web version of the JC site for the lower end phones without the cool browsers. Just remember not all cell phones are created equal :D

Well i have a Blackberry Bold and its great for browsing, but theres a lot to go through on the site. I mean it possible to post and i do it every so often, but navigating sometimes is a pain.
tschwicht 08-20-2009, 11:04 PM Something like this would be nice:
http://wap.crackberry.com/
If you click on the forums it's laid out nicely for cell phones. I can post here on my blackberry curve but it's kind of jumbled when browsing the forums.
I'm not sure how hard this would be to do, but i'd imagine a ton of people here browse/post on their phones. Would be a very cool idea.
just get an iphone :D

How so? I have 3 email accounts I use with it. 2 business, and 1 personal.

We tried iPhones originally and if you have your own server (unlike a aol.com, yahoo.com, gmail.com account) then the phones dont sync very well. Even Apple agrees with this when we called them about the problems. Maybe this changed with the new 3GS, but i know others who have had this problem for their businesses.

+1... my eternity was suppose to be as good as the iphone, but trust me its not. The first test I did with my coworker was hit up an unnamed adult site and try their flash vids on my phone. I was pissed when my didnt work, and his iphone was letting him fastforward to the good parts.

when i got my storm, the guy at verizon said it was nicknamed "the iphone killer". what a joke. i hate that phone more than i can even describe. every 2 days it needs a software upgrade, and when i try to do the upgrade i get a message saying "not enough memory available". not to mention it takes me ten minutes to type a 3 word text because of how hard it is to hit the right keys. worst cell phone decision i ever made.
on a side note, it works remarkably well for drunk texting. go figure.

Yea Storm was on my radar as well, but I picked mine because it had a TV feature. I used the TV for maybe a week and canceled the service right away. Something about watching MTV road rules through a 3 inch screen looses its appeal real fast.
When my contract is up through ATT I m picking up the iphone 4 sure. Even if its an older model and not the S version.
blibblab 08-21-2009, 02:18 PM I got my Samsung Glyde last June and have been pretty much satisfied throughout. Touch screen got a little wonky in May, but Verizon switched the phone out for a newer version for free since it was a known defect in older moels. Internet access and the QWERTY keyboard satisfy my needs - I don't need an application for every little detail (though, I'd be lying if I said I didn't desire an iPhone... However, my anti-Apple slant won't allow to get it, even when it comes to Verizon. Just don't like the feel of Apple products...)

verizon is planning on offering the iphone???
blibblab 08-21-2009, 03:09 PM verizon is planning on offering the iphone???
They haven't come out to say that they will be offering an iPhone, but Verizon & Apple have working together on phone. During the last Verizon financial call, they wouldn't deny that they were going to roll out an iPhone (they wouldn't confirm it, but they wouldn't deny it). It's pretty much a solid assumption that the iPhone will roll out on the Verizon networks next year since Apple's exclusivity agreement with AT&T will expire in 2010.

The Storm was hyped too much and they didnt do it right. I love Blackberry's and i have a Bold right now because i have ATT, but i love it.
Like Blib i would be lying if i said i never wanted an iPhone, but i love my blackberry and i use the Blackberry Messenger so much that i would be lost without it.
Audrieu 08-24-2009, 02:46 PM we have about 30 iphones deployed here at work. From an IT side they are much easier to administer and have much less problems than our old bb deployment. Except when it comes to password change time when it is like a Olympic sport to see if you can change your iphone password before it locks out your domain account.

Nice to see an IT department that is actually smart about deployment. We have a partnership through Verizon :(
Keebler 08-24-2009, 08:21 PM See its weird. When people in our office got iPhones the e-mail was all screwed up. The e-mails wouldnt come through, they wouldnt send out. It was a giant headache.

What I notice about my iphone compared to my old smartphone is that I get emails and it reads them, deletes them and does all that however it doesnt update it on hotmail. Like if I log into hotmail.com it all shows up as if I didnt do anything to it. But when I would do it on my smartphone it would update it on the site immediatly. Weird!
Audrieu 08-24-2009, 10:12 PM Truthfully, the initial deployment took a bit of thought, but once the external mail server was working it was a breeze. They arent any harder than a standard windows mobile smart device.
The thing I really like about them compared to a BES based blackberry is they dont provide a tunnel directly into the you internal network (depending were the BES is located) like the bb do. - that is unless you configure them for VPN.
Cisco are you using an imap protocol for your mail? It sounds like the old smartphone was and the the iphone is configured for pop. That would probably have this affect your describing... hey but then I could be wrong:)

Actually my iphone does say something about pop when it has trouble getting the mail.
Audrieu 08-24-2009, 11:12 PM yeah just checked the hotmail is only providing pop access for the iphone not sure how the smartphone would have handled the update tho.

smartphone was windows based... if it has anything to do with it.
KC2Vegas 08-25-2009, 07:14 AM I had problems with my yahoo account on my iphone. So I made a gmail account and it works great.

Yeah gmail works great (they allow iMAP access).
Cisco419 08-25-2009, 09:42 AM My yahoo account works great on it. Its just my hotmail one but since Ive had that account for almost 10 years its no big deal to log on and delete everything again
Ive had no issues with yahoo or gmail. everyones using the email app right? your not using your browser are you?
