That makes you a tad bit closer if you were driving to vegas...and me closer if I'm flying..

I still want to conduct the experiment ..the driving vs flying and actual time saved...

if you include the following:

Going to the airport--20min (from home)
PArking (10 min incl walk)
Checking in (10 min )
Getting throug security (20 min)
boarding, (30 min)
flying (60 min)
deplaning( 15 min)
getting in line for a cab (15 min)
taking the cab(15 min)

Total about 3h 15 min

Driving...roughly 4 hours door to door

My math has been telling me that flying only saves you about 30- 45 min...

That makes you a tad bit closer if you were driving to vegas...and me closer if I'm flying..

I actually did the math myself, but then I have always flown out of LAX. LAX is a pain on its own, so its best to avoid an airport like that. For me driving actually saves 30 mins or so if I was flying out of LAX. Believe or not, it takes me 25 minutes to get LAX and almost an hour to John Wayne. I m right at the border of OC and LA county.

If you are driving, once you get in town, you wont have to worry about cab fare, costs to make runs to the grocery store..etc etc. Of course the downside is that its probably better you take a cab for a night on the town.

Hey Aziz welcome to the board!

Oh...driving vs flying...well it is always (minus delays) better to fly from phoenix, but time saved is only an hr and 1/2. BUT, the thing for me is that being in a car for five hours exhausts me, whereas I walk off the plane usually feeling pretty good.

It is nice to be able to get cheap booze/snacks though if you have a car
