View Full Version : Best steakhouse?
Mr.Vegas 07-20-2009, 09:35 AM What do you guys suggest for the best steakhouse on the main strip in Vegas? I didn't want to venture off so just wanted some in close proximity to the strip. I've been to BOA and CUT which were pretty good ... any others?

Not directly on the strip but a friend recommended Vic & Anthonys at the Golden Nugget. I will give it a try when I'm in Vegas.
Keebler 07-20-2009, 07:16 PM N9ne in the Palms. I know its not right on the strip, but close.

I hear downtown as some good places... :D
To answer the question, I think Delmonico in the Venetian has gotten some pretty good reviews. And SW in the Wynn seems to be top rated...
ocbatman 07-20-2009, 10:48 PM i've always been a fan of Del frisco's but that's a block or 2 off the strip...on the strip,SW is well rated because its amazing!
Best one Ive been too wasnt on the strip, so Im gonna follow directions, and not tell ya about it. And NO, it hasnt been suggested yet. :D
mojo1108 07-21-2009, 12:24 PM I like the steak at SW and TAO.. Switch is pretty good too.. BOA was good.. and Luxor Steakhouse
mojo1108 07-21-2009, 12:27 PM Steaks are also good at Fix and Mix

Hahaha very nice! Which one was it anyway dnix?
Delmonico in the Venetian
This might be a viable option since we are staying at the Palazzo now and I just checked it out on the web, looks nice.
Thanks for the feedback!
madscientist 07-21-2009, 10:40 PM Brand steakhouse in the Monte Carlo was surprisingly good, on two separate occasions. They have a little loungey-bar type of place too that's not bad for a few drinks before or after dinner. Restaurant's open to the casino though, so it may not be the most romantic place if that's what you're lookin for....

Single here so no romance needed, it's a big group going labor day weekend so needed a good setting coupled with juicy, pan-seared steaks mmmmmmmm
Thanks for the rec!

Rat Pack ... very nice history! Thanks for the rec. I'll have to check this out ...
try to go when its not busy, so youll get more attention. besides having awesome steaks, the place is like a historical landmark. try to get the owners, managers, and waitstaff talking, and youll here some great stories. it looks like a dump on the outside, but its really nice on the inside. thats why no one would ever stop there, unless they new about it.

Good tips, thanks dnix. We narrowed it down to this place, BOA, and Delmonico either way, good steaks and a great way to commence the drinking activities.
mojo1108 07-29-2009, 11:48 AM I didnt think Delmonico was anything special at all.. and nowhere near the same class as alot of the top steak restauarants in Vegas.. If you go to BOA, ask for the truffle chips!!!!!! SOOOO GOOOOOD
vega$ 07-29-2009, 03:01 PM Had a great meal at Stack last month. I also like Craftsteak in MGM....if you have a big group get the tasting menu for 60 bucks a person. Its served family style. Best steak, seafood, appetizers and dessert I have ever had collectively in my life.
royale 07-29-2009, 03:38 PM I heard good things about SW at the Wynn. I went to Envy the last time I was there. Its maybe a block down from where Hard Rock is..
Mr.Vegas 07-29-2009, 11:49 PM Mojo - Truffle chips sounds damn good right now haha
vega$ - I may check into that ... thanks!
royale - SW sounds interesting man ... I'll check into that as well.

Been to Delmonico, overrated. Steaks were very average. SW and CUT are your prime spots. N9NE is pretty slick too.

SunFire 09-08-2009, 09:54 AM Has anyone tried Strip Steak at Mandalay Bay?? From what i've read they got a best steak award from esquire.
Also I'd love to hear about Prime!
livelifeas1 09-08-2009, 06:23 PM Went to Craftsteak and wow that was so good. And, yes I'll get some pics and trip reports up soon for the LDW trip. BOA was very good also.

radi0 11-13-2009, 10:01 AM Me and my friends really enjoyed Prime at the Bellagio.
The place Aureole at Mandalay Bay was pretty good also. Me and my friend Marty accidentally had a candlelight dinner there. The steak was good, but it was really the atmosphere you would bring your girlfriend to.

IndyColtsGal 12-17-2009, 10:00 PM Thanks, glad you added the bit about the bar, was wondering if we needed to stop elsewhere for cocktails prior.
It's way off the strip, but Terzetto at M is wonderful.
CheapVegasClubs 12-27-2009, 01:45 AM Ill tell you what The Eiffel Tower Restuarant is not a steakhouse but they have the best Filet I have ever had in my entire life. Thats saying a lot because I love to try everyones Filet. The meat is just perfect and the Red Wine Sauce is amazing. It is upcalass so make sure you wear something nice.
One of the other great steaks is the Filet at Joes Seafood in The FOrum shops. Its a bit more casual but still a great place! They have a spice that they make that is one of a kind. Its a mix of different high quality seasonings from all over the world and is very unique and tasty.
IRockNvegas 12-31-2009, 07:01 PM i noticed cheap vegas clubs was banned, did he not try your filet dnix?
gillyronald 01-10-2010, 08:47 PM When I visited Las Vegas everytime, I always stopped by the great, cozy SteakHouse at Circus Circus. The waiter was very friendly and open-minded. I must eat the famous porterhouse steak there that's why there had none of fattening inside the steak! I ate the whole thing except the real t-bone! I will come back to Vegas in July and make the table reservation as guaranteed there!! They know I am deaf. Dan
madscientist 01-15-2010, 04:05 PM I ate at CUT in the palazzo over new years and I was NOT impressed. The steak was actually greasy - which I have no problem with in a burger, but not my wagyu. And the macaroni had that burnt-top taste. Ugh. I knew not to give Wolfgang any more of my cash

Checked out the menu. The place looks awesome. May sound silly but I have been looking for a place that has Escargots, good steaks and Crème Brulee and this place has it all!! Glad I checked put this thread :)
VegasKid 03-26-2010, 02:49 PM My vote is for stripsteak at Mandalay Bay. IDK, I just love that place.
vansteffo 03-29-2010, 08:02 AM Second that! I think there's one in Planet H as well....
kdiamond 03-29-2010, 10:21 AM I love N9NE and Nove at the Palms. Either one is great for steak. I love the atmosphere too. I have been to SW and while it was good, the atmosphere was odd, and a lot of old hoity-toity people in there. Emeril's Delmonico would have to be a close follower.

kdiamond 03-29-2010, 01:57 PM Hard to say......I have only been to SW once and N9NE many times, so having never had a bad meal there, I'd have to say N9NE.

PH is Strip House - but also verrrry good, gotta try the Porterhouse for Two.
The new Mastro's at Crystals is very good - be careful not to touch the plates as they are the hottest plates ever.
SW is great and has one of the better views for steakhouses on the Strip - same can be said for Prime.

Steak&Beer 05-09-2010, 10:40 AM Tuscan steak at its finest, with great service and wine selection...not only is the steak selection and taste great but the experience is what sold it for me.
mysticsavage 05-30-2010, 09:09 PM I am a StripSteak junkie as of the invasion. Great wine selection, the appetizer fries are some of the best I've ever had, fantastic cocktails, and the Kobe rib cap was the best piece of meat I've had in recent memory.
SexCbiaach 05-30-2010, 09:20 PM My vote is Gallagher's Steakhouse in New York New York. I got the cowboy....yummy ;)
Carnevino is tops if you plan ahead - if you want the best steak you've ever had, phone a few days ahead and see about a Porterhouse Riserva. These are not aged 30, 40 or 60 days - instead these are aged 240 days.
The price is steep - they charge $100 per inch (vertical), and you'll definitely want at least a 2 incher.

caesar1st 07-01-2010, 05:48 PM I take my top clients there every year. Love it. Thanks for bringing it up, I have to remember to book dinner there the 14th.
SW is my favorite, some days I just crave their potatoes au gratin.
Delmonico was just OK for me. I'm excited to try out some of the other suggestions you guys have listed.
mynewhaircut613 08-05-2010, 11:34 AM I love N9NE and Nove at the Palms. Either one is great for steak. I love the atmosphere too. I have been to SW and while it was good, the atmosphere was odd, and a lot of old hoity-toity people in there. Emeril's Delmonico would have to be a close follower.
But not considering the atmosphere... which steak did you think tasted better SW or N9NE or Nove??
My party of 10 was at N9NE on Monday, Aug 2nd, and here were our impressions:
The atmosphere at N9NE is excellent, but as far as the steak goes, most of our party was disappointed. I'm not sure if this is just the American way, but we found the steaks to be EXTREMELY salty (I actually would have sent my steak back if everyone hadn't noticed the same salt factor). My fillet was also a little undercooked in the middle (I ordered it medium, and I found it to be very red with a chewier consistency in the middle - at least medium rare), and it could have been trimmed a little better (i.e.: I shouldn't have to deal with any grizzle/fat at all on a fillet). This is a little nit-picky, but for $54, it should be perfect. Now, two guys who didn't order the fillets (they split the 40oz Rib Eye for two), didn't notice the salt as much, although it did have peppercorn sauce on top which may have balanced out the flavor a bit.
Where N9NE does a very excellent job is on the sides and appetizers. On appetizers, we had a couple of "this is the best I have ever tasted moments" (Lobster soup, and Calamari). I tried the calamari and it definitely ranks up there on the "best of" list. Excellent consistency and texture, and they cook it with some jalapeno peppers, which gives it a nice kick. I also tried the "shrooms" (mushroom caps stuffed with crab), and they were delicious.
Sides wise, everything is a la carte (so basically you get your steak, and then add on whatever sides for $11). Most of the sides are good for at least two people (the skinny fries are probably good for 3). I had half of a loaded baked potato which was great and some skinny fries which were decent. Some folks at the other end of the table had mac & cheese which they were very happy with. There are a lot of sides choices, so it would be worth while having a separate thread on "N9NE - best side dishes" :D.
The only other steak I have had in Vegas, was last year at Outback Steakhouse... which wasn't that great, but I can't remember the steak being anywhere near as salty as N9NE. For this reason, I wouldn't recommend the steak at all, unless you are big fan of salt. However N9NE could still be a nice launching point if you are going to hit some of the clubs at the Palms. Enjoy the atmosphere, the young crowd, and the delicious appetizers.

If the weather isn't too chilly, request for a table outside next to the water to watch the shows. And if it's a special occasion, let them know when you make a reservation, they've always made a note when I've told them it's an anniversary or birthday dinner.
CAMEL 09-22-2010, 10:31 AM I have only been to SW in Las Vegas and for my anniversary in two weeks, I want to try something different.
I'm going to Picasso one night and the other I want to try a steakhouse not SW, SW was great but I want to try something different, not Prime because I'm going to Picasso and the view will be the same so we'll save Prime for another occasion.
I am considering Craftsteak @ MGM and CUT @ Palazzo.
What other steakhouses should I consider?
I'm also trying to eat at 5 or 5:30 and then go to a show, like KA at MGM or jump from Palazzo to Mirage for Love @ 7pm.
Has anyone had the Japanese Wagyu at these restaurants?
Is Wagyu worth it? I saw it's more expensive and suppost to be awesome but it's more money less meat, so I wonder should order a bigger japanese piece or go for the american wagyu, or just have the regular steak.

wagyu is worth it if your a beef enthusiast.
but the dry age steaks at all these steakhouses are prime beef aged atleast over 21 days which already makes it flavorful and tender...your going to have a good steak regardless.
stripsteak(@mandalay bay) i heard stripsteak is AMAZING!

For that list, you should decide on and make reservations at CUT.
I do Steakhouse reviews all across the country, you can check out my Write-Up of CUT at http://steakyards.com/index.php/2010/08/cut-las-vegas-nv/
And for the most part, stay away from the Wagyu (except the Double Porterhouse @ CUT). If you're going to splurge, True Japanese A5 Grade Kobe is the only way to go. It'll cost between $20 to $30 an ounce, but it'll be very much worth it.
Wagyu can't beat a Dry Aged cut of USDA Prime - but they price it more because they like to fake you into thinking you're eating Kobe. Again, if it's under $20 an ounce - you're not.

I ate at CUT and it was fantastic. I didn't try the Wagyu, but we did have the Porterhouse and...well...it was some of the best meat I've ever had. Also had the Kobe sashimi...mmmm.
I would recommend Ka also. If you're doing the clubs afterwards you'll need to get from the show to the club quick, cause it'll let out kinda late.
CAMEL 09-22-2010, 11:07 PM Hey BSM, why do you recommend the porterhouse instead of the true japanese wagyu, do you think that CUT's wagyu is not trully japanese but an Australian export? Have you had the Filet Mignon (my favorite cut) at CUT? How does it compare with the porterhouse?
madscientist 09-23-2010, 07:52 AM i'm going to be the voice of dissention because i ate at Cut and Craftsteak and wasn't too pleased by either.
The steak at Craftsteak was only OK, i had the wagyu there, and honestly i couldn't help wanting to ask for steak sauce. i mean, you'd figure they'd serve it with some house sauce or other accompaniments but no, they did not, and i was left wanting. also, i had the tuscan kale and the macaroni and cheese at craftsteak, and the macaroni had a burnt taste and the kale was WAY WAY oversalted, which they tried to explain by saying its the way the juices or whatever reduced in the oven. um, what does that have to do with me? you should tell your chef to not add so much salt before he cooks the damn thing....
ate at Cut this past New Years Eve, and it was also only ok. the steak was much better than at Craftsteak, as were the sides, but this steak was a little bit greasy, if you can believe that. both me and the bf had kobe there, so for the kobe taste it was great but the actual execution of the meat itself was only so so. and if you're paying out the ass for a piece of cow, on a holiday nonetheless, you expect your stuff to be on point. i wouldn't go back to either of these restaurants, i'd try stripsteak or N9ne.

I would recommend the Porterhouse at CUT because it's a bit of everything - and can be easily shared for two people (unless one of those people is me, I usually try any "For Two" cut for myself). It is Wagyu but it's regionally sourced from Snake River Farms, Idaho (There is a Prime Variant of the Porterhouse for Two as well). With the Porter, I always look at it for what it is - a Bone-In Strip Steak on one side, and a Bone-In Filet on the other. IMHO, you can't go wrong.
One of our guests during my review had the Prime Illinois Corn Fed Bone-In Filet (16oz), another had the Petite (8oz.), both were excellent.

You lost me at Steak Sauce.
Just curious why you would want any sort of "steak sauce" or "house sauce" on any High Grade cut of steak?

that's exactly my point - it shouldn't have NEEDED anything, but it definitely was missing something. i don't normally use sauce on any steak

I say StripSteak is AMAZING at Mandalay.
I just had a tasting of the entire menu LOL (not really kidding here) at STACK in the Mirage and it was Heaven too. I can definately tell you what to order here.
xkrazymattx 10-25-2010, 03:29 PM My FAVORITE steak house is THE RANGE STEAKHOUSE inside Harrahs. Second level of the Harrah's with floor to ceiling glass windows... live piano player.. best food ive ever had in my LIFE!
Ocadman 11-17-2010, 03:17 PM I would not recommend Del Frisco's. Was told good things, but service was not that good and steak was overcooked. Weird thing is my friends all loved it. Go figure.
MikeyTantalo 11-17-2010, 03:22 PM Del Friscos on Howard huges is great...
Les Artiste inside Paris.. amazing..
SW in Wynn....
Switch in Encore.. all AMAZING..
and oddly.. .. hugos cellar at the four Queens....
JuneBug 11-19-2010, 09:32 AM Best meal for me and my crew in Vegas was Emeril's' Delmonicos at the Venetian. we did the chef's table which gives you not only a great view of the kitchen as well as the restaurant but you have your own Somalier (sp?) as well as dedicated bar backs and constant attention. you dont have to do the pre-fixe meals and can order off the menu, but i would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone looking for a new dining experience. i believe it was a 7 or 8 course and we did the wine pairings with each course. that doesnt sound like a lot of food, but over the course of 3hrs we were all very full and content at the end. plus a lil buzzed from all the vino.....we walked away from there just under $200/head for 6 guys. tax/tip etc. included....so when you break it down not too bad for 8 glasses of wine each and 8 plates. we also ordered some other drinks inbetween so if you just stick to the menu and pairings it will be a bit cheaper..........
on the flipside, if its just steaks you want go checkout Tom Colicchios CraftSteak at the MGM......definitely great steaks...
Superjay 12-16-2010, 03:16 PM House of Lords is the single most underrated steakhouse on the strip...Sahara. Moderately priced, and some of the best meat I've ever had
Sir Pearce 01-07-2011, 08:15 PM I hate reading, but has nobody mentioned BRAND Steakhouse & Lounge at the Monte Carlo on here? Not just because I have a business relationship with The Light Group, I am VERY un-biased in fact, but that is a phenomenal restaurant where the prices for what you are getting can't be beat.
Brand is absolutely amazing.
I also really enjoy SW, and Botero was great all three times I had steak there.
windycitylp 01-07-2011, 10:13 PM we just got back and we had reservations at brand on nye. it was really good. the prime rib was excellent and the entire experience exuded luxury. i am a vegas first timer so my base is not vast but i would second the brand recommendation. all around a good classy meal.

That's awesome, I dj'ed at Diablo's on NYE, and actually had Brand for Dinner, but ate in the Lounge. We ended up closing upstairs where I was dj'ing earlier in the evening, and I hung out in Brand Lounge the rest of the night.
If you go back to Brand ask to see Chef Ilse, he is awesome, and always has a story to tell, tell him Pearce sent you, he is a friend of mine. Also, try the French Onion Soup. AMAZING!
JCS4032 03-02-2011, 05:32 AM My only experience has been Gallaghers at NYNY. Been there twice and thought each time was wondurful! Heading out in a few weeks still undecided..?..? Thinking SW or N9NE...
Brett Stevens 03-02-2011, 08:09 AM I just set a reservation for my trip in June at Del Frisco's. I've heard really good things (including the infamous "Best steak I've ever had in my life!" line) from a few friends that were recently in Vegas.
I've eaten before at N9ne and Craftsteak - both of which were really good and pretty cool, but I've got to give the edge to N9ne. Great steak, but an even cooler atmosphere - be perpared to open your wallets though.

Nakom99 03-10-2011, 11:11 AM I know some guys are gonna laugh because the place is a creepy dump, but "The Steak House" at Circus Circus is the best on the strip by a long shot.
It has 'old school' steak house appeal (not new age), and the food is out of this world.

For the ladies and couples, Mon-a-mi Gabi at Paris is a great spot. Order the NY strip and then ask for it to be preapred whatever french style you like. If you order the 'french' steaks they pound them out flat.
IRockNvegas 03-10-2011, 11:15 AM Your the second person to say this, there's obviously no shortage of "choice" cuts in Vegas :)

I've heard this about Circus Circus as well.
bsweet 03-10-2011, 12:44 PM There are so many good steakhouses in town, at the level we have to choose from here, they're all worthy of "the best" in some way. The prices are all relatively similar for the high image spots on the strip, so just go and try someplace new, i'm sure you'll have a good meal. SW and N9NE are both great spots, along with the top spots at pretty much every major hotel.

+1 totally agree - was there in Feb and it was an excellent experience. It's definitely 'old school' inside, but it's very charming - and pretty small - so a reservation is a good idea.
Brett Stevens 03-25-2011, 08:50 AM How is STK at Cosmo? I'm hearing good things about the atmosphere, but how's the food compared to say Del Frisco's (great food, so-so atmosphere) or N9Ne (great food, great atmosphere)?

I"m a huge fan of N9NE and have never not gone there on a Vegas trip. This time around I'm going to go to STK and SW instead of N9NE based on what some people I trust have told me.
I know that probably doesn't help you much, but it sounds like you and I have similar tastes.
GreenT 03-26-2011, 02:59 PM I really liked Mon Ami Gabi at Paris. It's French so may not be what you're looking for but if you're lucky enough to get a table outside (which we did when we were there) you can get a great view of the Bellagio fountains while you eat.

JCS4032 03-28-2011, 07:14 AM Went to two steak houses on my recent trip (just returned 3/26/11). Went to N9NE on Wednesday night great atmosphere, crowd and the dry aged poterhouse was awesome. On Friday nigh stayed close to the blackjack tables and ate at the steakhouse in Paris (cant remember name). Surely was not the vibe of the Palms and N9NE but the food was decent. Had the Dry aged porterhouse at both and N9NE was hands down the best and suprisingly the prices at both were similar.

If I weren't planning this trip, then I wouldn't have found this awesome board... and I doubt the next guy would be nearly as informed. (We'd probably be eating McDonalds)

We are big steak eaters and here is our experience for what it's worth.
N9NE was wonderful in everyway - food, service and atmosphere.
SW - while the atmosphere was very nice, we were disappointed...we had high hopes, but who knows maybe it was an off night.
ChiTownChik 04-13-2011, 08:42 PM N9NE was seriously the best steakhouse I've EVER been too! I was worried at first because it's such a party in there I thought the food wouldn't be up to par, but I was WRONG! Amazing food and service.

Good to know you guys are experienced in steak. I'm a HUGE burger/STEAK fanatic. Last year I drove cross country eating the best in ever state I stopped in, so I have pretty high standards.
My last three trips, I tried:
Stripsteak (Mandalay Bay)
Prime Steakhouse (Bellagio)
Eiffel Tower Restaurant (Paris)
They were all great meals, but... I'd say 'Stripsteak' was the best of the three. The Eiffel Tower restaurant was really under the radar, and it's steak certainly ranks up there with the full on steak houses.
The best steak in my travels was at a small place in the Outer Banks of North Carolina called "Prime Only". Got the fillet there, and the waitress didn't bring out any steak knives, so we asked for some and her response was...
"You don't need them!"
And we didn't. I was able to cut my fillet with my butter knife, and even the back dull end too. It was unreal.

I was in Chicago a few months back and had a steak at Gibsons. It was very good, just didn't blow me away. Kinda overshadowed when I had a burger at Kuma's Corner though. Easily one of my top 5 burgers in the country.

Gibsons is more of a chain steak place still a decent place. But there are some amazing other places you should check out.
David Burke Prime House..amazing dry aged..
Gene and Georgetti's ..old school chicago steak place
But Kuma's has some of the most amazing burgers I have ever had. such a wide array of burgers. on a nice summer night you can expect to wait a cple hours for a table..well worth the wait!
