If so, how long, what, and where? I just got back in the gym after a few months hiatus this week. Yesterday I trained MMA day session and then MMA and no-gi jiu jitsu night sessions. I'm in bed on my laptop right now and can't move!

I don't, but you may have heard of a friend of mine who fought MMA and now UFC - Eric "Red" Schafer

My brother does, he's actually starting gi jiu jitsu next week. He's been doing it for about 6 months. I just started boxing a little over a week ago.

Yeah he fights in the UFC now and is doing pretty well. He's under the same management company as a lot of fighters from the gym I used to train at. He's a Pedro Sauer black belt too I believe.

That's awesome he will love it. I do both gi/no-gi. I box too but I have terrible habits of just wanting to stand there and throw instead of actually using footwork and head movement. :D

Oh, and dnix that picture never gets old. It was originally Shogun Rua, who's head did you put on there?

Yeah Red's had a few tough fights but he's not doing so bad for some guy from Wisconsin, eh? ;) The fight with Michael Bisbane was an ass kicker. I haven't talked to him in a long time, he moved south and I moved north. But we're still part of the same circle of friends so I'll run into him soon enough.

Yeah he trains in Milwaukee now I believe with Duke Roufus. That's cool though. I lived in Milwaukee when I was young, and lived in Stevens Point for about a year (04-05 timeframe). Lots of family from Wisconsin. I actually used to play in a weekly poker tournament from time to time in Appleton when I lived in SP at some sports bar but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it.

I'm going to start up at the Krav Maga gym here in SF, need something more than the gym to motivate me to work out these days.

I did some Krav Maga stuff back in the day in the Army. One of the coaches in my gym is a Krav Maga certified trainer. We're a "Krav Maga Worldwide Official Training Center". I'll do the classes sometimes but I focus mostly on Muay Thai and BJJ. You have to be careful which gym you go to though.

It's awesome for real world application. You can apply some of it to MMA but for the most part it's for the street (or combat). They don't exactly allow groin kicks and throat stomps in sport. :)

Yeah I've done a bit of stuff in the marines but nothing that useful for not killing people. Lol

I wanted to start. Not really for fighting actual matches, but just for the work out. Classes are expensive though. Been trying to find something reasonable.

I hate the idea of there being MMA training. As much as I hate Bas I agree 100% with him that you have to have a specific discipline as your backbone to base your training on. Look at Lyoto right now and how his Karate background is helping him dominate his fights.

most legit schools, in my area at least, don't let you in to the mma training until you've reached a certain level in at least one striking art and one ground art. i train muay thai, boxing, and bjj, along with mma training.

He uses his Karate with all the other aspects of his game. His game is definitely not based completely on Karate. He uses the angles he learned from Karate well and a lot of the movements, but the footwork changes a bit and once you're in a clinch or on your back that all goes away. He just has an extra tool that he uses aspects of really well. He's still a BJJ blackbelt and has trains muay thai, wrestling, etc.

I'm like Trunks. I do MMA classes where we work standup/ground/takedowns but I also do boxing/BJJ (gi and no-gi)/wrestling/muay thai. Our coaches require you to go to the rest of the disciplines or you'll never get a fight.

Trunks, where's your fight? Where do you train out of?

I train No-Gi here in MN (MMAA).

That's awesome. My jiu-jitsu coach (Comprido) actually comes out to MN to train Brock Lesnar for his fights.

Forgot about this thread. I'm still training. I have been out about a week and a half with bruised ribs, went back to the gym yesterday for the noon bjj gi session. Let's just say, my ribs aren't healed yet! I'll be back at it tomorrow thought for noon bjj gi and evening boxing and bjj gi.
