View Full Version : Guess it's time to start posting...sup guys
chillin@thebellag 06-28-2009, 12:10 AM Hey, found this site a week ago and have just been checking it out here and there and figured I'd go ahead and make an account.
I'm 23, male, and live on the east coast. I actually play poker for a living so I've been to vegas quite a few times but usually when I'm out there I'm so focused on "working" that I don't get to enjoy the nightlife much at all. Just got back from 3 weeks out there and will be going back in mid-July with a friend from home for a week of complete debauchery. This will probably be my first trip where the priority is just to relax, party, and drink so I'm looking forward to it.
Looking forward to interacting with you guys on the boards and maybe even out in vegas and learning all i can from all you vegas nightlife pros.
must be nice. I'd love to be able to play poker for a living. I always do well at home, but I'm a puss when it comes to playing with the big boys. :(

Welcome! Did you do any WSOP events this year?

Hrm... I wonder how many JC forum members here do pokerstars? Maybe could set up some games?
nyc2vegas 06-28-2009, 05:04 PM is it easy to go to vegas when you play poker for a living? dont you see a table and think I could kick these peoples asses and make money to pay for the weekend? thats what it seems like to me!
chillin@thebellag 06-28-2009, 07:05 PM dnix,
just gotta get comfortable with it, which only comes through playing and getting more experience under your belt. I started playing online at 18 and then went to my first casino at 19, I was very nervous and anxious at first until I realized that it's the same game just different environment and that I was just as experienced (with poker) if not more so than the others at the table. From there it's easy sailing.
kc2vegas,
thanks. haha, now you know why i don't drink when i'm out there and trying to focus on playing.
blibblab,
thanks. Yea, I played about 7 events. I'm primarily a cash game player as I can't stand tourneys most of the time but every once in a while gotta do something when there aren't any juicy cash games running. I may play the main event when I got back, not sure yet.
nyc2vegas,
if I'm understanding your question correctly, um not really, I don't really look at it that way. I mainly play online and take trips to casinos (be it in vegas, la, ac, etc.) to switch things up and if there are juicy games going on. I really don't look at it as a way to pay for a trip. And as I said, when I return in July it'll basically be my first time going to vegas strictly to party/gamble and with no intention of playing poker so I think I'll just take that hit whatever it comes out to be :)
Jeez, sorry this came out so long
And I didn't even notice there was a running thread for "intros" and the sort, whatever too late now I guess
IRockNvegas 06-28-2009, 07:09 PM cant wait to see you make the final table at the WSOP buddy! lets party! lol
nyc2vegas 06-29-2009, 06:50 AM cant wait to see you make the final table at the WSOP buddy! lets party! lol
AND hes gotta sport the AOD shirt!!!
AKBoarder 06-29-2009, 08:53 AM LOL, nice nice, something tells me he'll have one of those annoying FullTilt hats or some shit on though, hahhaha
chillin@thebellag 06-29-2009, 01:46 PM pretty sure I wouldn't be caught dead wearing any "poker attire" in my regular life
and you do realize that when you see people wearing those fulltilt hats or logos or whatever it's because they're being paid to do so right? it's not exactly about being fashion forward.
i have no clue what "AOD" is, and I'm guessing that's probably a good thing

So what's your primary game? HE? Did you play any of the other events, like O/8, Razz or HORSE? Did you play only in the NLHE events, or did you get some limit HE, too?

Nice! I was thinking more along the lines of $2/5 nl or $4/8 limit... or if he played the bigger games.

nlhe and plo cash games, i played 4 nlhe events, 2 plo events and 1 nlhe/plo mix event
not a fan of lhe, pretty sure i'd rather watch paint dry than play that game. I play O8 from time to time and bunch of stuff like stud, 2-7 single/double/triple draw, badugi, etc. at home games for fun.

mainly 5/10 online, live anything from 5/10-25/50
you can make a living off of 4/8 limit? talk about grinding it out. considering max hourly pot rake, minus tips and expenses (flight, food, ect.) I would think you would need to play at least 25/50 nl, to make a living at it. Im kind of curious now too.
edit: never mind. you posted the answer

no clue what's possible as far as playing live exclusively, as i've said me and all my friends who do this for a living mainly play online. as far as online goes, depending on how good you are, how many tables you play and how sick of a grinder you are people make a living playing as low as 0.5/1

I've made between $300 and $700 a night playing $4/8 before, did it pretty consecutively for about 2 months playing about 2 times a week then going out drinking/partying the other 5 times. My hot 2 months rush ended and there was nothing I could do to win so I haven't really played since. Just bs around here and there but not like I used to.

A buddy of mine was killing it on $3/6 for about 2 years. He was making a few hundred a night almost every night but then he hit a few cold months and he ended up having to get a job recently. But he's starting to do pretty good again.

As far as live goes those are some pretty big games. Crazy action!!!

lol, badugi - it's like an alcoholic's Steel Reserve - anything to get gambling going.

You'd be surprised. With rakes from affiliates and all, and a win rate of 2bb/hr or so, you could probably make out. Win an MTT here or there and you're golden.
So, did you cash in any of the events?
dogeaters 07-02-2009, 04:49 AM Make the Final table in any event... Sport the AOD shirt... and the full tilt hat if they are paying well... and Throw an AOD party... Nassau threw a good size one for for 6k ... we will expect yours to be twice as big... at the least... welcome to the board woot :) ONE TIME :)

What do they get paid? Full Tilt must throw out some serious cash, just about every person on tv has one of those hats on.
nyc2vegas 07-02-2009, 07:10 AM yes they do get paid....probabaly well too, especially if youre well known and the advertisement is working perfectly because it is being discussed right here :)

I got a couple friends that qualified for the WSOP through online sites - they've said that you're basically given swag to wear as a result of winning seats into the main event.
chillin@thebellag 07-04-2009, 10:53 AM So, did you cash in any of the events?
yea, cashed 3 times, I guess luck was on my side

will do...

there are a bunch of different offers and deals made, on the bottom level you can get $500-$1000 to wear a patch as a one time thing when getting deep in a tournament that will get some tv time. On the stratosphere level are people like Chris Ferguson and Howard Lederer who own Fulltilt and thus wear the hats and logos to advertise their own company. In between there are a bunch of different deal possibilities and cash amounts

yea, past two years I got my seat on stars and opted to wear their gear in exchange for $1k.

Solid, man. I've been meaning to check out Vegas during WSOP time.

I love badugi, just takes some time playing to get a strategy. Ideas of the best casino in LV for badugi? I do pretty well online, but I'm a bit hesitant to do badugi live, but I'd like to view it.
what happened to chillin??? never heard from him this weekend
IRockNvegas 07-22-2009, 08:05 PM I saw him standing in front of the flamingo
